Hogback Ridge Trail, located directly behind my North Boulder studio, is one of my favorite quick local hikes. I’ve passed this particular pine tree many times, and after seeing it highlighted by the late afternoon sun one fall day, I just had to paint it. The meadows around these foothills are filled with deer, prairie dogs, and wildflowers, with the occasional eagle and bobcat sighting.
