I painted this view of the Grand Tetons from Schwabacher Landing as a color study for my larger Grand Teton Sunrise piece.

The Tetons are fascinating for many reasons. They’re made of some of the oldest rocks in North America (2.5 billion years old), but their formation was relatively recent (10 million years ago). They have virtually no foothills, rising dramatically from the valley floor to create some of my favorite hiking in the country.
