The Wave study
The Wave study
4×4” acrylic on 1.5” thick gallery-wrapped cotton canvas. Hand signed and dated on the back. Certificate of Authenticity included.
I painted this piece as a color study for my larger painting of The Wave, Arizona. I ended up switching out my reference image for the final painting but used many of the same colors from this fun little study.
This iconic sandstone formation is located on the slopes of Coyote Buttes near Page, Arizona. The undulating rock patterns are the remnants of Jurassic sand dunes shaped by strong winds millions of years ago. Over time, the layers upon layers of sand became cemented and deformed, slowly revealed by erosion. To protect the delicate geology, permits to hike here are among the most difficult to get in the country.
I donate a portion of every sale to the National Park Foundation and the National Park Conservation Association to help protect these incredible places.
