In the Brainard Lake Recreation Area near Boulder, the Pawnee Pass trail leads past Long Lake on its way to Lake Isabelle, one of my favorite local hikes. I loved the way the sunlight lit up the steep valley walls as my group made its way to the lake. Moose are abundant here, I have seen many wading through the lake on cool summer mornings.
