This painting started en plein air on the shore of St. Mary’s Lake in Glacier National Park. I pulled off Going to the Sun Road in the late afternoon at Wild Goose Island Overlook. Loving the look of the sunlight highlighting the layers of granite peaks and glacial valleys, I sat down to paint. The tiny island in the center rises only 14 ft above the surface of the lake.
