This painting started en plein air on the shore of St. Mary’s Lake in Glacier National Park. I pulled off Going-to-the-Sun Road in the late afternoon at Wild Goose Island Overlook. Inspired by the sunlight highlighting the layers of granite peaks and glacial valleys, I sat down to paint. The tiny island in the center rises only 14 ft above the surface of the lake.
